According to Bloomberg, Apple will release the Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021, with a new screen and faster processor. The company also is expected to release the Apple Watch Series 8 in 2022, alongside a more rugged sports edition, as well as an updated Apple Watch SE. Apple Insider reports that the Series 8 could include a body temperature sensor. Apple isn’t expected to reveal the Apple Watch Series 7 until later in 2021, though Bloomberg reports that it will include a thicker chassis than previous models. However, the report claims that the additional thickness will not be noticeable. Bloomberg also states that Apple’s plans to bring a glucose monitor to the Apple Watch is still several years away, though the company is likely to push more health-focused features on future models. The new Series 7 is expected to support ultra-wideband functionality, which is a big component of Apple’s AirTag item finder. Nothing about the new watch has officially been revealed just yet, though we did get our first in-depth look at watchOS 8 and its features during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in early June. WatchOS 8 will allow users to unlock smart home doors, hotel rooms, and more using the watch, so ultra-wideband functionality makes sense as an upgrade for the Series 7. Official details about a new Apple Watch are expected to arrive later this year.
