How to Request a Change to Your Birthday on TikTok
While you can easily change your username and profile picture on TikTok any time you like, it’s no longer possible to alter your TikTok birthday from the app controls. To change your age on TikTok, you’ll need to contact the app’s customer support and request a birthday update. Here’s how to do it.
Why Can’t I Update My Birthday in the TikTok App?
TikTok removed the ability to change your birthday in an attempt to protect minors from accessing features intended for older users, such as direct messaging, getting coins on TikTok, and starting TikTok live stream broadcasts. Many younger users were changing their age on TikTok to access some of this extra functionality, so the option to do so was disabled. One downside of this update was that many adult users who rushed through the signup and entered a fake birthday during the process found that TikTok restricted their app use even though they’re well above the minimum age requirement for certain features.
Should I Just Start a New TikTok Account?
If you can’t change your age on TikTok via the above method, you can open a new account with the right birthday. Unfortunately, this means that you’ll be starting from square one in terms of followers. However, you should also be able to download all of your TikTok videos from your original account and re-upload them to your new one without much trouble. Another potential strategy would be to create a new TikTok account with a parent or guardian, which you could manage together.
