The new Photos app has a revamped UI and new features to make editing more engaging, according to a post on the Windows Insider Blog. The redesigned app aligns itself with the visual style of Windows 11 by having rounded corners and a backdrop that incorporates the desktop’s theme and wallpaper for a personalized touch. This reflective backdrop is known as Mica Material and serves as the base for many apps. Windows 11 Photos now has a “filmstrip” feature at the bottom of the photo viewer that displays all of the pictures in a folder and allows users to jump around their collection. Thanks to the new “multi-view” feature, users can view multiple photos by dragging them from the filmstrip. And if you find the filmstrip intrusive, clicking on the photo viewer whisks it away, so users can see their pictures free of distraction. The editing toolbar also has been updated to allow users to view metadata, favorite their photos, and draw on them, on top of the usual cropping and rotating tools. A new feature is the ability to open third-party photo editors and use their tools. For example, if a user wants to use the vast array of tools in Adobe Photoshop, the app will launch the editor and allow you to edit the image in the same window. Other third-party apps include Picsart and Affinity Photo, with more on the way. The new Photos app is currently available on the Windows 11 Dev Channel as a part of the Insider program.
