According to CNET, the update can be set up within the device, itself. While previously only available to the Echo Show 10, the update is now available for the first-generation Echo Show 5 and the Echo Show 8. The Home Monitoring setting provides motion alerts, video recordings, and the ability to check in on pets or toddlers. CNET notes that the Home Monitoring function does not entirely replace an actual security camera, since you can’t view livestream footage. To set up the Home Monitoring setting in your Echo Show device, go to your device’s main menu and click Settings, then find the Home Monitoring label and toggle it to turn it on. Follow the steps that show up on your screen, and be sure to tap Done to save your changes in your Echo Show. The Echo Show 8 also has a new pan and zoom feature you can use while on video calls, so everyone stays centered in the frame. This feature is especially useful for the Home Monitoring setting, since you can pan the video feed left to right to get a better view.
